actually written much outside of class. But today, I was reading through an anthology of sci-fi short stories, and I came upon an idea that simply HAD to be written. So I did. And this is the result. Keep in mind this is a work in progress, and it's still very rough around the edges. I'm open to critique and ideas, but flames and swearing are ignored.
===

I suppose you could say everything began with my death. Not death in the manner of physicality, as you have likely presumed, but rather a quieter, subtler kind of demise few truly have the conscious ability to comprehend. The death of the soul.

Such a fragile little thing, one's soul. Vulnerable to the pricks and barbs of the world and its changes yet forever truthful, differing ever so slightly from person to person but enough alike that one can never mistake the common bond.

I seem to recall that my soul, when I last lay my eyes on it in that dismal crumbling ruin, had taken a mirror-form as a tiny winged man in a black dress uniform with a petite monocle over one iridescent eye. He had perched himself upon my shoulder, standing at attention with his thin gossamer wings folded flat down his back, trembling with nervous energy that refused to manifest elsewhere. I remember staring wide-eyed into the shattered reflection, wondering if perhaps my grandfather's madness had finally caught up with me. Then he clicked his heels, gave a sharp salute, and simply disappeared.

For the longest time, I kept silent about the whole affair, even when I started to feel the effects of my sudden loss, growing quite apathetic about pretty much everything, though I maintained the illusion of care in the presence of my superiors and family. I became struck with an incurable bout of insomnia, simply unable to sleep no matter what drugs I was prescribed or how much I drank. Were it not for my sister, I likely would have soldiered on into oblivion with no one else the wiser of my condition.

My sister, God bless her tender heart, finally confronted me after I forgot to visit the family home for the third week in a row, exhaustion causing my memory to fail more often than was usual, and I could not resist those begging cornflower eyes.

"It was your soul."
"Pardon?"

She took my broad callused palm in her delicate snowflake hands, her gaze solemn as she sat herself beside me upon the window seat.

"That little man you saw. He was your soul."
"How-?"
"Because I've met mine."

And she showed me, guiding me into the drawing room wherein had been installed a massive silver mirror commonly hidden behind a large curtain. It was a young girl in a sundress, barefoot and smiling with her wheat-blonde hair in curling pigtails, dragonfly wings fluttering excitedly as she waved to me from her seat upon my sister's shoulder. I half-expected to see my little man in uniform to appear and give the girl a sidelong glance, but my own shoulder remained bare.

"So, I no longer have a soul?"

A terrible question, but one that required an answer. My sister gave a soft sigh, turning her gaze from the mirror to look me in the eye.

"I'm afraid so, brother mine."

I could not take my eyes from that tiny winged girl, smiling happily and swinging her feet in the manner all children do, though I could see a bandage wrapped about one knee and yellowing bruises down the side of her face. A small voice in the back of my mind mentioned the fact that my little man had seemed a bit battered as well, his clothing worn and the monocled eye bisected by a vicious scar.

"But, why?"

She shook her head, golden ringlets swaying. The winged girl frowned, thin arms crossing over her narrow chest.

"I've no idea."

Not long after, we parted ways, my duties calling me away from home once more. And kept me from home, my unit called upon time and again to quell the uprisings of those our leader deigned inferior and the few who defended them. I did my best to maintain order among my countrymen without the violence others turned to, but I was but one man leading a small squadron.

"I'm sorry, Herr Blumenthal, but you and your family must move. This building has been requisitioned on the Fuhrer 's order."
"But my family has lived here for generations! My grandfather made the floral arrangements for your parent's wedding!"
"I know, Herr, but I'm afraid I have as much choice in this manner as you have. Either leave by your choice, or I will be forced to make you leave. I'm sorry."

Blumenthal was lucky, choosing to go under his own free will. My unit had become increasingly bloodthirsty, often chafing against my orders for non-violent conduct. One of the newer recruits had punched a rabbi earlier that week when we had been trying to convince the old man to remove himself from the property.

As I escorted Blumenthal and his wife past the wide windows of the boarded up flower shop, making sure to keep myself between the young couple and my restless unit, I found myself gazing past them to the window's reflection. It was a habit I had begun falling into ever since that fateful day with my little sister, sneaking glimpses of people's souls that no one else seemed to be able to see. My unit and myself were bare shouldered, but everyone aboard the rickety transport truck has some little winged thing perched upon their lapel.

No one ever knew what I saw in the mirrors and windows, and I never told. It was special secret, being able to see a person's true self the moment I glimpsed their reflection. I remember smiling every time I saw a child's soul, the little things all brightness and cheer, capering about without a care in the world. And lovers' souls, how they clung to one another when the people themselves feared to be exposed by a stray act of tenderness. But it disturbed me how those in the employ of our enigmatic leader were always bare shouldered. My squad mates, my superiors, young and old, devoid of that which made them human.

It wasn't until I was assigned to the camps that I understood why.

The Muses of A Fangirl

Been a while, and I really don't have much to say in the ways of an update, but I have some fiddley-farty background work from an up and coming fic I have in progress. Basically, the story will be about all the different characters I have in my head that help me write and how they all interact with eachother. It's basically a nexus singularity of multiple universes colliding in an isolated space, but it's fun getting the frat-house in my head down on paper.
Meet my Muses!
===

• Rorschach/Walter Kovacs from Watchmen - Referred to as Rory, Ink-Face and Walter, among other similar nicknames (Ginger, Freckles, etc). The first to appear, actually was thrown into nexus junction via Bryonne's shower (while she was in it), which provided a rather awkward relationship at first. Is EXTREMELY protective of Bryonne, rarely far from her unless asked. Generally at least semi-hostile at all times, only truly relaxes when alone with Bryonne. Finds Bryonne extremely confusing at times, but likes her well enough to care for her well-being, and oft times treats her like a younger sibling.

• Master Chief Spartan John-117 from the Halo trilogy - Often referred to as MC, Chief, and John. Randomly appeared in living room while Bryonne was over at a friend's house playing the Halo video game. While at first had no idea what to do with himself outside of the Human-Covenant War, he's come to see his visits to the Nexus as mini vacations where he gets to sleep in (a whole ten minutes, HA) and enjoy homemade cooking. Likes Bryonne, reminds him of his fellow Spartan Kelly, but still is a bit wary of everyone else. Thinks PH is a dick, but finds him a good drinking buddy in a pinch.

• Pyramid Head from Silent Hill - Also referred to as PH, Py, and Pyra (as well as Xuey, referring to Red God Xuchilbara, and Scarlet as a joke). Manifested during particularly vivid nightmare featuring him, startled by shift in surroundings ended up frightening Bryonne even more on accident and got in a fight with Rory which was broken up by Bryonne when she came to her senses. Though quiet and reserved most of the time, is more often than not at the whim of his instincts and raging libido. Bryonne has managed to tame him somewhat, so he's alright to hang around, but still has a tendency to randomly hump things, more often when he's just woken up or inebriated. Has a very twisted sense of humor. Thinks Bryonne is pretty OK, for a human, and greatly enjoys her cooking.

• Karl Ruprect Kroenen from Hellboy (the movie) - Generally referred to as Karl, Kroenen (Doc or Dr. K by Jack Spicer). Randomly appeared in laundry room after a long week of reading Hellboy fanfiction. Tends to spend the majority of his time reading or working on various small mechanical projects, and generally avoids contact with the other denizens unless totally necessary. Enjoys the fact that Bryonne finds his distorted German accent 'cool' and his mutilated face 'fascinating' (rather than receiving the usual disgusted reaction), and thus tolerates her presence far more willingly than the presence of most of the other houseguests.

• Jack Skellington the Pumpkin King from The Nightmare Before Christmas - Generally referred to as Jack or King, but also called Bone-Daddy on an occasion. Manifested during a nightmare, not unlike PH, but differed in the fact that he did his best to comfort the girl despite his own confusion. Kind and benevolent, is very much the gentle giant and is regarded as an older brother figure by Bryonne. Tries to see the best in everyone, and is very patient. Thinks Bryonne is a wonderful girl, and enjoys helping her introduce the new additions as well as providing her with a beta for her writing.

• Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean - Usually referred to as either Captain Jack or Captain Sparrow, though sometimes just Sparrow or Captain. Appeared on Halloween, passed out on porch and went unnoticed until decorations were being put away. Thinks majority of Nexus is a drunken hallucination, and thinks Bryonne is a 'darling', though she continually and adamantly turns down his persistent advances.

• The Doctor (Tenth incarnation) from Doctor Who - Generally referred to as Doctor, Ten, Tenny, or David (in reference to his actor in the series). Appeared in Bryonne's bedroom while she was watching a Doctor Who marathon. Had a bit of a panic attack at first, thinking the paradoxal enigma would cause the universe to collapse until he figured out that the nexus had naturally occurred and the universe was just fine and dandy. Pops in now and again for a spot of tea and conversation, enjoys Bryonne's company as she generally understands what he's going on about even if he gets technical and excited (or starts reminiscing). Thinks she a "brilliant" young girl, and sometimes wonders if he should have her come along with him once in a while before remembering the fact that her presence is what keeps the Nexus stable.

• Venom symbiote from Spider-Man - Manifested during Spring Cleaning, black stain behind refrigerator that refused to be removed until Bryonne tried to use her nails to pick it off. Had been injured by heat generated by fridge motor, and clung to Bryonne in a bracelet form until healed. Once healed, attempted to bond, but was blocked by Pyramid Head (being a supernatural entity of vast power, he's capable of various feats - epic growling) and removed. Through trial and error, was able to construct a physical form of his own. Was resentful of PH for the longest time because of his being blocked from bonding, but eventually got past it and the two share a grudging friendship. Is rather clingy, preferring to be around people, preferably Bryonne since she generally tolerates his presence. Tends to refrain from a physical form, preferring to pretend to be various pieces of jewelry so he can hang around Bryonne more. Thinks Bryonne would make a fantastic host, but refrains from bonding due to general politeness and standing threat from PH.

• Alphonse Elric from FullMetal Alchemist - Referred to as Al, Aru, or sometimes Alu. Appeared in garage during a period of FMA obsession, was almost crushed under boxes. Immediately took a shine to the pets of the house, especially the youngest cat Delilah, and is much like Skellington in his patience and tolerance of others. Generally shy, and prefers to hang around the less openly hostile of the group. Thinks Bryonne is very nice and likes to hang out with her, especially when she starts reciting poetry or singing.

• Soundwave from Transformers (G1) - Referred to by his full name, though some nicknames have popped up, including Sounders, SW, and Bluey. Manifested in an old radio Bryonne's father brought to the house prior to Bryonne re-watching the original Transformers movie. Upon transforming, found original massive form was unattainable due to a quirk in the Nexus and took a form just a little taller than an average human, approximately Master Chief's height. Unnerved by inability to return to full size, spent much of initial time alone and trying to reach his Cassetticons via their telepathic link, which was cut off to its barest limits due to another quirk in the Nexus. Eventually relented to Bryonne's attempts to comfort him, and has since used his time in the Nexus to experiment with the benefits of a smaller frame. Found a companion in Kroenen, and enjoys helping the clockwork man with his mechanical projects. Sees Bryonne as useful, if a little annoying due to her fascination with him.

• Darkrai from Pokemon - Often referred to as Rai or Rai-rai, sometimes Dee, though mostly just his full name. Manifested on a stormy day when Bryonne was returning from school and had Pokémon on the brain, emerged from her shadow upon entering the house. Was badly injured, and spent his first week in the house bedridden. Bryonne stuck by him, fussing and fretting and continually turning to Kroenen for help, since the German was the closest thing to a medical professional resident in the house. Discovered his aura didn't cause nightmares while in the Nexus, allowed himself to indulge in the comfort of a friend he knew he wouldn't cause accidental harm. Tends to hang around Skellington and Bryonne, but made an interesting acquaintance in Dororo upon learning of the alien frog's own unfortunate past. Thinks Bryonne is a very good person, and has a little bit of a crush due to her caring for him.

• Zim from Invader Zim - Referred to most commonly as Z, Zim, Zimmy, though other nicks have cropped up. Appeared in bedroom while Bryonne was asleep, fell from ceiling on top of her. Was knocked unconscious when Bryonne panicked and attacked out of self-defense. Woke up wrapped up in a blanket on the couch, surrounded by a collection of very odd people without his human disguise. He immediately went on the defensive, and would have attacked if not for the appearance of the Doctor in the TARDIS, who recognized his species and greeted him in his native language (Irken). Upon having the situation explained, took great interest in the concept and got into a long discussion with the Doctor and generally made himself at home. Pops back and forth to visit whenever he's feeling stressed, since a quirk in the nexus allows him to be immune to his allergies to human food and drink (has become a great fan of hot chocolate and tea, as well as ScavananNut sandwiches). Became a permanent resident upon discovering his mission was a fake, exiled from his home with no one to turn to but the Nexus and his enemies. Tends to hang around the Doctor whenever he's around, and otherwise mingles with the other alien species, though after his exile tends to cling to Bryonne (and similarly sympathetic denizens) a lot. Finds Bryonne a comforting, non-threatening presence, and an intelligent person with a great imagination, despite her human origins. After exile, thinks of her more as a mother/older sibling figure than anything else.

• 6 from 9 (the movie) - Most common nicknames are simply saying Six in different languages. Appeared in Bryonne's backpack when coming home from classes, and wasn't discovered until the walk home, when he started having a vision and was thrown into a panic attack. Bryonne did her best to calm him down, and got a few good scratches for her efforts, but it worked in the end. He was very clingy the first few days, terrified of his new surroundings and the strange people that populated the place, often hiding in Bryonne's clothing. He eventually opened up once he got access to art supplies, and made good friends out of pretty much everyone he met, even Pyramid Head. He's still relatively clingy, but he doesn't mind being handed around as much as he used to, and he's absolutely enthralled by Rorschach's ever-changing mask. Thinks Bryonne is very nice, and enjoys working on art projects with her and anyone else who wants to participate.

• Yautja from AVP - Actual name in unpronounceable, so Bryonne named him Max and has generated several nicknames including Preddy, Muscles, and Dreds. Appeared in green belt outside Nexus while Bryonne was walking home from school, ended up stalking her through the trees to her house because she was the only living thing out and about besides him (plus the Nexus draw). Eventually revealed himself after spying on the house for about a week and observing the odd mix of creatures that dwelled there. Bryonne was beyond ecstatic upon meeting him, so much so she had to lock herself in her room and have a fangirl freak out before she could even speak properly. Acts more like a stray cat than anything else, popping in occasionally for food and company, more often for company since he's an expert hunter. Found an unexpected friend in Master Chief, who was the only one besides Bryonne who didn't react to his curious facial structure, having dealt with Elites for the majority of his military career. Likes to make things, and often carves sculptures and jewelry from bones he's collected from his kills. Thinks Bryonne is odd, but tolerable, and would make a good warrior with some training.

• Lord Richard Ashendale from LFG Comic - Referred to as Richard, Ricky, and occasionally Dick as a joke. Wandered in through the patch of corn Bryonne and her family were growing in their garden, and would have likely torched everything if not for the prompt intervention of the Nexus, which limits his magical combat abilities to non-threatening levels. First met Pyramid Head, and got into a long conversation on the subject of performing various types bodily harm on other living beings before Bryonne wandered in and introduced herself. Doesn't visit too often, but when he does he generally hangs around with Kroenen and PH, though his interesting sense of humor has made him a great friend of Zim and Beetlejuice. Thinks Bryonne is a pleasant girl who would do well in the evil hierarchy with a little training, but knows her more goodly influences wouldn't approve of his meddling.

• Heatblast from Ben 10 - Real name unpronounceable, Bryonne named Pyrrhus (Greek: flame-colored, red). Referred to as Pyro, Flame-Head/Butt/Brain, Hothead among others. Oddly enough, manifested in the middle of winter while Bryonne was waiting for the school bus and wishing she had something/one to keep her warm. Became ill upon extended contact with snow, and had to be carried back to the house by PH (supernatural resistance to heat). Nexus limiters allow him to interact normally with his environment, and his flame-throwing powers are nulled much like Richard's magical abilities. Has a relatively short attention span, and acts a lot like a young teen, but has an intelligent mind and is an avid sports fan. Upon being introduced, took an immediate liking to Bryonne, since she can be just as hyper-active as he can, and sees her at the sibling he never had. Takes great joy in artistic expression, and is particularly adept at sculpting as well as music, which makes him good friends with 6. Enjoys in depth discussions on various subjects, and prefers to talk with Bryonne, 6, and Zim, since they're the ones he can most easily relate to. Has also struck up a rather curious friendship with Grievous, and likes to spar with the cyborg whenever he gets the chance.

• Dororo Heicho from Keroro Gunso - Referred to as Dororo, Sensei, Azure (and other references to color). Manifested while Bryonne was practicing for her Muai-Thai class (Sun Salutation), and had a bit of a panic attack upon realizing he was in an unfamiliar Penopoken dwelling without his allies. Bryonne managed to calm him down with help from Skellington, and introduced herself and the other residents over tea. Greatly enjoys Bryonne's company, as she is quite happy to sit and listen to him when no one else will, and has taken it upon himself to teach her some of the more basic ninja arts. Joins her in practicing her Sun Salutation every morning, and tends to linger about her, especially when he's feeling lonely. Has made great friends with Darkrai, Alphonse and Skellington, as well as becoming acquainted with Kroenen and Soundwave, but finds the most enjoyment out of lingering alongside Bryonne and 6.

• General Grievous from Star Wars - Referred to as Grievous, General, Metal-Ass/Head, GiGi. Manifested in Bryonne's closet while she was in the shower reciting her favorite lines from him. Almost immediately got in a fight with pretty much everybody except the more non-violent residents (Spicer, Skellington, Sparrow, The Doctor, Alphonse, Dororo, etc), and ended up battling the whole group in hand-to-hand combat since his lightsabers wouldn't work (Nexus intervention). Fight ended when Master Chief and Pyramid Head teamed up with the Venom symbiote, tackling Grievous to the ground just as Bryonne got out of her shower. Upon seeing the cyborg struggling underneath the combined weight of a futuristic armored super-soldier and a super-natural demi-god of judgment as well as being bound in place by an alien symbiote, immediately came to his rescue, screaming and yelling at the top of her lungs to clear the area. Once everybody had backed off, she turned to help the battered Droid General to his feet, only to find him stomping off down the hallway towards her room. He hid out in her closet for almost a week, thinking if he stayed long enough he'd be able to go back, ignoring everyone and everything around him, until approached by Alphonse, who merely sat with him until Grievous asked him what the hell he was doing. Bryonne found them later, conversing comfortably despite sitting on the floor in her closet surrounded by shoes. Grievous hung around Al a lot at first, observing the other residents, until he was approached by Bryonne again, who was with Master Chief at the time and made the Spartan apologize for his actions before properly introducing herself. Since then, Grievous has come to think of Bryonne as something of a fellow warrior, or at least a warrior in training, and treats her with a certain measure of respect, and does his best to make a good example of himself. He's even offered to train her, but so far, Bryonne hasn't taken him up on it since she's been working with Dororo.

• Bouncer Big Daddy from BioShock - Real name not available, Bryonne named Gabriel (Bibical: strong man of God). Referred to as Gabby, Gabs, G-Man, Big Daddy, Daddy-O, Mr. Bubbles or Mr. B (rarely). Manifested from a particularly terrifying nightmare when Bryonne's father was away from home, thus causing her imagination to lock onto the next best thing. Immediately reacted to Bryonne's stressed state, went into defend-and-comfort mode, completely disregarding everything else to see to her well-being. She ended up falling asleep in his arms that first night, and he promptly labeled her as a Little Sister in his mind, despite her age and lack of ADAM altered body chemistry. Would not allow ANYONE near her, PERIOD, which put him in Rorschach's black book from the get go, until she woke up and realized what was going on, forcing the Big Daddy to recognize the other denizens as non-threatening. Followed her around constantly for the first few weeks, and eventually started to get used to the other residents, though still wary. Finally started to make friends when Bryonne got fed up with him following her around and told him to go bug someone else for a while, which led him to wander aimlessly around the house until he stumbled in on Kroenen and Soundwave playing chess. After watching them play for some hours, started pointing out moves and strategies, proving that beneath the conditioning and genetic manipulation he had a very sharp mind. Found a very close companion in Soundwave due to mutual protective motive regarding their respective charges (and Soundwave's telepathic ability allowing him to be understood), and eventually started to connect with the other denizens of the Nexus. Upon meeting PH, was initially very wary and uneasy around the eerie monster, but warmed up to him after getting his help breaking up a fight between Master Chief and Soundwave. Generally thinks of Bryonne as his Little Sister, and doesn't like to leave her alone for long periods of time, but trusts the other denizens of the house enough to allow her to be cared for by them. Guards her room at night.

• Jack Spicer from Xiaolin Showdown - Referred to as Jack, Jackie, Jack-Man, Robo-Boy, Spicer. Appeared on house grounds by falling from the sky into the garden due to his heli-pack malfunctioning. At the time, the two closest denizens were Pyramid Head and Richard, who scared the ever-loving shite out of Jack upon investigating the crash site. Became doubly terrified upon finding himself unable to call up his miniature army of Jack-Bots to protect himself, and would have likely fled if not for the appearance of Skellington and Alphonse. Upon seeing the skeleton, passed out from sheer terror and was carried into the house by Al. Woke up on the couch with Bryonne splinting his sprained wrist with MasterCheif's help. Immediately had a panic attack, only soothed when Soundwave came into the picture and used his telepathy to calm the teen. Bryonne introduced herself and the other denizens of the house, and promptly put herself in his good graces upon offering hot cocoa and cookies. Took the longest to adjust to the Nexus, since the appearance of the more visually unique residents sent into to fits of panic that often ended up with him hiding in the oddest places (including the pantry and on top of the refrigerator). Eventually opened up upon discovering Kroenen's workshop, and fell to tinkering with the German's clockwork inventions until Kroenen's return, whereupon he made a complete fool out of himself apologizing for his presence and promptly fled the area. Kroenen eventually caught up with him again, and commended his spectacular workmanship with a thence frustrating project the German had been working on for some time. Making friends with Kroenen led to interacting with Soundwave, and the trio spent longs hours poring over blueprints and helping each other with their individual projects. He also ended up making friends with 6 when the stitchpunk injured himself falling off the dining table and Spicer was able to fix him up good as new. He and the Doctor made friends right off the bat when the Doctor commented on one of his inventions. Generally sees Bryonne as a good friend/maternal figure due to her carefree nature and her fretting over him whenever he gets himself injured due to a moment of clumsiness. Most often found hanging around Kroenen and Soundwave, though he's also managed to get himself acquainted with MasterChief by questioning the super-soldier about his battle armor.

• Beetlejuice from Beetlejuice - Referred to as BJ, Beej, also B-Man and Stripes, only called by his full name when being summoned or in big trouble. Arrived on Halloween amidst a group of Trick-or-Treaters he scared away as a prank, not realizing he wasn't in his own universe. Turned around expecting Lydia and found Bryonne staring at him over the glasses of her MIB Agent costume. Immediately, he tried to cover for himself and attempted escape, only to be promptly grabbed by the girl and pulled inside to receive a giant hug and an ecstatic fan-girly squeal. Shortly after this, he was introduced to the various strange inhabitants of the house by Skellington, and immediately struck up a conversation with Sparrow, sharing lude jokes and commenting on the other denizens. Eventually met and befriended Pyramid Head over beer. Thinks Bryonne is an okay kid, with one hell of a great sense of humor and a crazy fun imagination to boot. Basically treats her like he does Lids, but just friends (no romantic undertone).

• Sniper from Team Fortress 2 - Real name is Flynn Bruce Ackerman, referred to as Snipes, Sniper, Aussie-boy, and Flynn on an occasion (Bruce when teasing). Appeared in Bryonne's bathroom just as Bryonne was getting ready to take a shower after getting backstabbed by the enemy Spy. Severely disoriented, the Australian allowed Bryonne to put his introduction to the situation in the capable hands of Rorschach, with a little help from the Doctor, while she took her shower. At first thought he'd died for real and gotten stuck in Purgatory, but realized the people hanging around were far too strange and having too much fun to be stuck in limbo, so suspended judgment until he got the full story from all angles. Made quick friends with pretty much everyone due to his laid-back personality, but especially clicked with Master Chief due to military/professional career. Also finds Max an alright bloke (mutual hunter), and is always interested in Kroenen's latest inventions. Upon being properly introduced to Bryonne, took an immediate liking to her, seeing her as a bright and lively young woman with a good head on her shoulders despite her hyperactive personality. Treats his visits to and from the Nexus as miniature vacations in between battles, as he appears generally between death and Respawn for some odd reason. Is the first and (so far) only muse ever to be able to bring along fellows from his universe, most commonly showing up with Medic and/or Spy. It's speculated this is due to the curious way he is able to access the Nexus (others generally access in times of extreme duress or sheer will power, in BJ's case the name recitation).

• (latest) Conrad Achenleck from Hanna Is Not A Boy's Name - Most often referred to as Connie, Bat-Boy, Vampy and Mr. Mono-Fang (jokingly). Arrived in universe upon getting lost on his way over to Doc Worth's and ended up stranded at the end of Bryonne's block just as the sun was coming up. Rorschach was the one to find him, having gone out for an early morning walk and recognized him from reading the webcomic over Bryonne's shoulder. With nowhere else to go and the sun coming up far too quickly, Conrad had no choice but to follow Rory back to the house. Nearly panicked upon being confronted with the oddity of the Nexus residents, mainly because the first denizens he met upon entering were PH and Gabby, who were watching Sweeney Todd in the living room while waiting for Bryonne to wake up. Properly panicked upon meeting Skellington, instinctively turned into his bat form and hid in the dining room chandelier. Would have likely stayed there all day if not for Rory going through the trouble of waking Bryonne and briefing her on the situation, to which she responded by getting MasterChief's help to look into the chandelier. Bryonne managed to talk down the panicked vampire, and finally gathered up his bat form and allowed him to hide in her hair while he got used to the general atmosphere of the Nexus. Eventually was properly introduced to the rest of the residents, and oddly enough hit it off with Beetlejuice, finding an entity who could relate to his undead status through personal experience. Also became well acquainted with 6 through their mutual enjoyment of artistic expression, and likes to watch the inventing trio when they're working, though he finds himself extremely unnerved by all three of them (well, Soundwave and Kroenen, finds Jack annoying). He's also found an interesting acquaintance in Flynn, who sympathizes with his predicament ad has taken it upon himself to teach the "lame-pire" how to hunt properly (with some help from Max). Thankfully, the Nexus has lifted several of the more debilitating parameters of him vampirism, allowing him to walk about freely during the day without fear of harm and extending his dietary limits, though he still heavily relies on blood for sustenance. Actually somewhat enjoys Bryonne's company, though her hyperactive tendencies remind him a lot of Hanna. Her sharp mind and logical thought process as well as her naturally empathic nature greatly aide in his tolerance of her, and he also enjoys watching her draw (also isn't afraid to help her with poses or anatomy, so long as no one else is watching).

Hunger Pains FUTURE

Right, so, I'm currently a GIANT fangirl for HINABN otherwise known as "Hanna Is Not A Boy's Name" by the fantasmagorical Tessa Stone. For those not in the know, I've been writing a fanfiction for the series mainly centered around Conrad Achenleck, the worst vampire in all creation, and an female OC named Leisa. It's sort of a romance, sort of horror, a little silly at times, but then that's HINABN for you.
Anyway, so I just recently completed an excerpt for the fanfiction, which is called "Hunger Pains", and it's WAY in the future of the story.
So, yeah, the following be spoilers. GIANT spoilers.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

---

They were just entering the theatre when he got the call, his cellphone jiggling merrily at him from within the cavernous interior of his laptop bag. He was a bit surprised to find Leisa's number scrolling across the screen, she had said she was tired and would likely sleep like the dead when he had walked her home from the café where she worked, so why was she calling him now. A quick word to Hanna and Cornelius (the name of choice tonight it seemed), and he flipped open his cell.
"Leisa?"
"There's someone in my apartment!"
The genial camaraderie of the night out froze and died at her words, and he felt his perceptions tunnel upon hearing Leisa's frantic near-panicking whisper.
"What?"
"The lights are all dead and he's digging through the kitchen and he hurt Jenny, oh God, Jenny, she's bleeding everywhere and I think he has a gun and-!"
"Whoa, whoa, slow down, what happened?"
He heard something crash in the background, and Leisa inhaled sharply, falling silent for a few long moments before responding, her voice so quiet he had to strain to hear her.
"I got home and everything was dark and quiet, and you know my place, never quiet with all the critters around and Jenny's music, I heard some kind of rustling in the living room and I found Jenny, I have her here with me now, she's so pale, oh God there's blood everywhere, Connie. I tried to call the police, but I kept getting put on hold and I didn't know who else to call, oh God, I think she's dying, Conrad, Jenny's dying!"
Conrad felt the bottom drop out of his stomach at the soft sob in his friend's voice, and abruptly, all that mattered was getting to Leisa in time. He spoke quietly, trying to keep his voice calm even though he was two steps away from a panic attack himself.
"Leisa, Leisa, listen to me, it's going be okay, I'm coming, I'll be right there. Try calling the cops again, okay?"
"Okay."
There was a quiet sniffle, and he felt his heart twist in his chest at the sound.
"Please hurry."
"I will, I promise."
Dazed, he ended the call, and stood silent for some seconds, trying to wrap his head around the painful hope in his friend's voice. A warm hand came to rest on his arm, and he looked down to meet Hanna's concerned blue eyes.
"What was that?"
He blinked, his mind still filled with Leisa's terrified words.
"I have to go."
"What?! Why?!"
"She needs me."
With that, he was gone, bolting out the theatre's revolving doors, cellphone tucked into his pants pocket and his bag left lying in heap on the lobby's carpeted floor.
He knew Hanna would follow, curious and concerned and ever the boy wanting to help, and where Hanna went, his zombie sidekick was sure to trail along after him, so he really shouldn't have been surprised to hear two pairs of running feet slapping on the concrete after him. It startled him a moment, and then that soft sob of fear hopped to the forefront of his mind, and he simply ran faster, the only thought running through his mind Please let her be alright.
Leisa's apartment complex wasn't all too far from the theatre, but it was still a healthy distance, and he abruptly found himself very grateful for the fact that he didn't need to breathe when he heard Hanna gasping for air behind him. He didn't even bother trying to buzz the door, he simply turned his shoulder and bashed straight through the frail wooden portal without even breaking his stride, leaping up the narrow stairs three at a time. He only slowed upon reaching Leisa's floor, his pace shifting from a ground-eating gallop to the patient stalking of a wary predator. Leisa's apartment lay at the far end of the hall, the only one big enough for two people to share without becoming horribly cramped.
The whole floor was suspiciously quiet, and he saw one of the many strays Leisa cared for crouched outside the window that lay at the end of the hall, its gray-striped fur bristled up in a long strip down it's back. The animal locked eyes with him for a split-second, and abruptly there were dozens of strays crowding the window, each and every one some critter Leisa had cared for. A flash of understanding, and he eased open the ancient window as quietly as he could, allowing a veritable flood of warm furry bodies to spill out over the sill and around his legs. He followed them through the gaping doorway into Leisa's apartment, every supernaturally-enhanced sense on edge.
The door was wide open, hanging loose on its hinges with the broken lock trailing splinters across the tile flooring. With his nocturnal eyes, he grimaced seeing the utter disarray that had befallen the once-organized chaos of the little flat. Glass crunched under his foot, and he looked up to see the ceiling light shattered. Small furred bodies wound between his legs, dispersing into the utter destruction as he stalked deeper into the darkness. A sudden crash made him freeze in place, and his eyes darted in the direction of the sound. The kitchen. Leisa had said the stranger was in the kitchen. He felt his hands curl into fists, upper lip curling back in a silent snarl, and he strode purposefully towards the small kitchen area.
Only to stop mid-step as the scent of blood hit his nostrils.
The sharp metallic aroma was strong fresh, and he shuddered as memories from that night so long ago rose to the forefront of his mind. A small voice thanked the stars that he'd remembered to eat today, allowing him to keep control of himself. He turned from the kitchen, following the blood-scent across the short hall that doubled as the entryway and peered behind the hip-high bookcase that served as a divider between the entryway and the living room.
"Connie?"
She knelt huddled between an armchair and the wall, phone held to her ear and tear streaks shining in the half-light coming in through the open window at the opposite end of the room. Jenny lay limp across her lap, breathing shallowly, her torso torn open from shoulder to hip in a ragged line. Her pets, the four he'd first met, were huddled around her, protecting their mistress as she had protected them.
Conrad slid down into a crouch, careful not to move too fast as he approached, not wanting to scare her. He slipped a hand around hers, gently curling his fingers around her own trembling digits interwoven with those of her roommate.
"I'm here."
"Thank God."
The relief was audible in her voice, and she slumped against him, her soft curls brushing his cheek as her head came to rest on his shoulder. He tilted his head, nuzzling against her in a gesture of comfort as he whispered in her ear.
"It's going to be alright, I'll take care of it, okay?"
She made a soft sound of protest, but he gave her hand a comforting squeeze and slipped away before she could speak.
He barely noticed the presence of Hanna and Cornelius standing in the gaping doorway, nor the surge of hissing creatures weaving their way through the apartment in his wake, all that mattered was destroying the threat to his Leisa. The man was little more than a hulking shadow, garbed completely in matte black from head to toe, the only skin visible through the eyeholes cut into his facemask. He was rifling through the drawers, sifting through their contents for valuables. A serrated kitchen knife was tucked into the back of his waistband.
Rage tore through him, hot and raw, and he fairly flew across the small apartment, vengeance at the forefront of his mind. Oh, he was going to make this bastard pay.
With an inhuman roar, he leapt at the despicable creature that had dared to invade his lady's home, slamming the brute into the kitchen counter with all his supernatural strength before lifting him bodily and throwing him into the refrigerator. The man fumbled for his weapon, but the vampire was upon him before he could even think, pounding his fists into the masked face with as much force as he could muster. He felt something strike him, once, twice, but he only snarled, taking the man's head in both hands and smashing it into the dingy tile flooring hard enough to make it crack on impact. Then again. And again. And again.
Finally, Conrad hefted the man up by the front of his shirt, fangs bared as he glared pure hatred into the masked face.
"I'm going to kill you."
The burglar gave a pitiful whimper, to which Conrad only snarled, slamming the man into the tile once more before rising to his feet and dragging the weakly struggling form towards the balcony, a hissing mob of angry strays taking out its ire on the trespasser. It was only when he kicked open the glass doors, the weak lock snapping off and a few panes shattering, that he remembered Hanna and his zombie sidekick. And that was only because Cornelius spoke up, in that ever calm monotone, this time with a wary edge of caution and just slightly commanding.
"Put him down, Conrad."
The vampire blinked, and turned to look back over his shoulder, meeting those dimly glowing orange eyes.
"Excuse me?"
The zombie took a step forward, his hands up in a non-threatening gesture even as he slid carefully in front of Hanna, who had gone very quiet and still.
"Put him down, Conrad. He's not worth it."
Conrad snarled, his fingers curling tighter into the burglar's shirt.
"He hurt Jenny. She's dying."
"He'll be charged accordingly, Conrad. Trust me, you don't want his death on your conscience."
"He deserves it."
"That's for the court to decide. Conrad, put him down."
There was a sharp yowl from somewhere amidst the crowd scattered about Conrad's feet, and the next thing he knew, there was a knife jabbing at his internal organs. Conrad felt his eyes go wide as he gave a startled gasp of pain, and looked down, seeing the burglar's hand wrapped around the handle of the blade stabbed into his gut. There was a look of triumph in the man's eyes, victory. The vampire growled, a beastial sound made somewhere deep in his chest, and he released one hand to take the man's gloved hand, inhuman strength crushing delicate finger bones as he wrenched out the serrated blade.
"I'm already dead, you fucking sonovvabitch."
The burglar's eyes went wide, and a small whimper of fear came from behind the mask. The knife dropped from shattered digits, clattering on the tile floor quite suddenly clear of the small furry bodies that had been gathered there moments before.
Conrad didn't even bother with removing the mask, he just shoved it out of his way, baring lightly-tanned skin wrapped taut around the column of the man's throat. He could see the burglar's pulse, fluttering terrified through his jugular vein, and grinned, a twisted expression of malevolent glee that bared every tooth in his mouth, fangs glittering menacingly in the moonlight.
The bite was not to feed, oh no. He did not want this degenerates life to have any kind of purpose, not even as food. Sharp fangs tore into tender flesh, ripping open the carotid artery and jugular vein. Muscle shredded itself on his sharp teeth, taut ligaments sliced into ribbons. He tore out the man's throat, spilling blood all over the tile and down his front. The burglar gurgled, breath bubbling through the wound, and Conrad spat out the mouthful flesh with a snarl of disgust.
Deed done, he dropped the body, and the little furry things seemed to materialize out of thin air, so much more than simple animals revealed in the moonlight. When they dispersed, there was no trace of the corpse, not even the smallest droplet of blood except that which had stained his sweater.
Ignoring the two men he called friends staring after him with stunned expressions, he stalked out of the room, seeking out the woman he had come to protect.
She was right where he'd left her, huddled in the corner, only now she was curled around Jenny's much to still form, trembling as she wept. He said nothing, only slipped down beside her, twining his fingers in hers and wrapping an arm about her waist. Leisa collapsed against him, the muffled sobbing shifting into a full on wail of grief as she pressed her face into an unstained portion of his sweater. And that was how they stayed, him blood-stained and comforting, her tear-stained and in need of comfort, until Hanna and Cornelius came to their senses and came to get them.
Not a word was spoken as he met the zombie's glowing gaze, only a nod of acknowledgement from the dead man, Hanna lingering behind the much taller man like a frightened child, blue eyes wide and more than a little scared. Conrad carefully disentangled Leisa from her friend's corpse, gathering her up in his arms where she curled against him and cried, hands fisting in his sweater as he rose to his feet. Her pets were quick to gather around him, wanting to be near their mistress and the not-quite-human who had come to her aid.
"It's time we left."
Cornelius glanced towards Jenny's body.
"We'll come for her later."
A short nod, and they filed out of the room, Conrad leading the way.
The landlord was waiting for them at the bottom of the stairs, irate and more than ready to give them all a tongue lashing that died in the man's throat upon seeing the bloodstained man cradling one of his tenants in his arms. Conrad stopped a moment before the frazzled man, his face totally impassive as he spoke.
"Call the police. A burglar killed Jennifer Martinez. I'm taking Leisa with me."
The landlord nodded, stunned, and Conrad strode past, stepping carefully over the splintered remains of the front door.

---

Aaaaaand, that's it so far. It's obviously very rough, and needs serious work to fit in with the story so far, but it is far into the future in the tale, so I'm not worrying about it so much right now.
Hope you all enjoyed!

Guess what I just saw. Starts with 'Zombie', ends with 'Land'.

Columbus, Ohio's Zombieland Rules of Survival
1. Cardio - Zombies have a very active lifestyle. So should you.
2. Beware of Bathrooms - When you're at your most vulnerable, somehow, they can just smell it.
3. Seatbelts - It's gonna be a bumpy ride.
4. Double Tap - When you're not absolutely certain, don't skimp on the bullets.
5. Reload - Simple common sense, but often forgotten in the heat of battle.
6. Cast Iron Skillet - Zombie takes a hit from one of these, it ain't getting back up.
7. Travel Light - It's easier to run without a bunch of stuff weighing you down.
8. Get a Kick-Ass Partner -
9. Double-Knot Your Shoelaces - When you're running for your life, loose laces could mean losing it.
10. Don't Get Attached - When your loved ones are trying to eat you, it's time to be selfish.
11. Always Carry a Change of Underwear - Running from undead cannibals can quite literally scare you shitless.
12. Bounty - Lots of disgusting fluids in Zombieland.
13. Trust Your Instincts - When you're the prey, it's good to be paranoid.
14. Limber Up - Don't want to pull a muscle in the middle of a massacre.
15. Use a Bowling Ball - Nothing says massive head trauma like a bowling ball (Preferably 16 lbs, don't use the little pink one).
16. It's a Marathon, Not a Sprint. Unless it is a Sprint - Endurance over speed unless you really need it, cause zombies don't care if your winded.
17. Don't Be a Hero - Self-preservation is key, and nobody is going to be impressed by how you got yourself killed.
18. Ziplock - A good idea, and great for keeping things organized in a crisis.
19. Pack Your Stain Stick - There's lots of disgusting things out there in Zombieland.
20. Shoot First, Ask Questions Later - When the slightest movement could mean your life, it's better to safe than sorry.
21. Always Carry a Melee Weapon - As useful as a shotgun is, it still needs to be reloaded, and that takes time. Better to have a back up bat or other swingable object on hand for those close corners.
22. Avoid Strip Clubs - Just do it. Please.
23. When in Doubt, Know Your Way Out - In an uncertain world, it's always a good idea to have a back up escape plan.
24. Be Quiet - Zombies are attracted to sound, so unless you want to offer yourself up as a free buffet, better zip it.
25. Blend In - When was the last time you saw a zombie eat another zombie?
26. Go for High Ground - When was the last time you saw a zombie climb a wall?
27. Find Good Shelter - This means have a sturdy reliable place where you can rest, but that doesn't mean it has to be stationary. A big all-terrain vehicle with room for a good half-dozen has the benefit of not having to scramble if you need to leave.
28. Be Ruthless - Just cause she's your bride doesn't mean she won't eat your brains the first chance she gets.
29. Buddy System - Have someone to watch your back.
30. No Drinking - Pretty obvious, but it has to be said. No need to be stumbling around when undead cannibals are on your tail.
31. Check the Backseat - Otherwise known as "Beware Your Unlocked Car".
32. Enjoy the Little Things - Just what it says.
33. Swiss Army Knife - Use that knife for a reason.
34. God Bless Rednecks - Loud, brash, well-armed and ready to kick ass. Even dead they're useful with all the guns they've got.
35. Don't Swing Low - Zombies aren't disabled easily, so go for the kill shot first thing. And make sure to Double Tap afterwards, just to make sure.
36. Maintain Good Hygiene - When infection can cause zombification, it's always a good idea to keep it as clean as possible. Hand-sanitizer is a must.
37. Don't Trust Doors - Zombies have hands and opposable thumbs. A hastily slammed door won't do much.
38. Never Use the Same Melee Weapon Twice - See Rule #36. Plus, there's no limit to the objects you can find to kick ass and take names.
39. Use Your Peripherals - A slight motion out of the corner of your eye could be your only warning of a zombie attack.
40. Improvise - When you're caught off guard or out of ammo, the strangest things can prove useful to keeping you alive and uninfected.
41. Shoot the Little Ones - Zombies don't care about age, neither should you.
42. Non-Perishables - Fresh food expires. Canned and packaged food might not be all too healthy, but it'll keep you alive.
43. Take Advantage of Your Surroundings - Your environment can help you out just as much as your weapons and quick feet.
44. Save the Last Bullet - If you're in a no win situation and about to die, it's better to shoot yourself than to get eaten alive.
45. Shoot the Fast Ones First - Zombies don't need to be strong to bite you.
46. Explosives - Extremely helpful in a horde situation, but use sparingly to preserve ammunition.
47. Avoid Fire - Zombies don't care if they're going up in flames. Also counts for water, cause zombies can swim too.
---
This list was compiled from various TV Spots, trailers, and the occasional blog. Some of these may or may not actually be canon to the film.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://ravinglunaticsanonymous.blogspot.com/2009/10/guess-what-i-just-saw-starts-with.html' title='Guess what I just saw. That's going to be fun. English classes. Meh. Dunno if I need text books yet, but I should probably go and check and stuff...
I DID get me artwork done though.
I've recently gotten back into Invader Zim, and the fan grouping behind it, mainly surfing the net for fanfiction and such.
After reading one such fic, I decided to draw one of the characters presented in the fic (which was actually a really good read, I should put up the link to it if I find it again). Zim, teenage and HUMAN, due to an unfortunate accident with a Cellular Regeneration unit.
FUN to DRAW!! And it gave me the opportunity to try out a coloring tutorial I found.
TURNED OUT AWESOME!!!
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 305px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_CTEPpoHgnfs/SpH932iGM_I/AAAAAAAAACw/K1UWy6MjlDM/s400/Human+Teen+Zim.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5373354966402872306" />
You like?
^^

College Woes

Bluhhhh...
I am so tired I can barely think straight, let alone type properly. Actually having quite a bit of fun with them.
Re-lived a chunk of my childhood by rediscovering Beetlejuice, and spent a good chunk of the last few weeks drawing the Ghost with the Most and his main squeeze, Lydia "Lyds" Deetz.
Still scrounging about the part-time job market in search of reliable employment, but so far, I've come up with nothing.
Met a fellow fanfiction writer, and we've been conversing back and forth, helping eachother out with our respective literary works. scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='Halo Spartan MasterChief dream memories memory remember war battle death'/>
Remembrance

The hydraulic door hissed open, revealing the battered and world-weary form of the Master Chief.
He leaned heavily in the doorframe a moment, the metal groaning at the strain, as if needing to catch his breath a moment. Though, one could never tell, with that impassive helmet a near constant. Slowly, he strode into the room, allowing the door to whoosh closed behind him.
It wasn’t much, a bunk installed on one wall, a computer terminal set up just inside the door, but it was enough for his purposes. The lone Spartan put one hand out, dragging it along the wall as he made his way over to the bunk. It was larger than regulation, due to his massive stature, but it still groaned in protest when he eased his full armored weight onto the metal slab. He winced at the sound, a barely perceptible twitch of one shoulder, and sat himself on the floor instead. The ship’s metal decking was made to support several tons, thus it held him up without protest.
Few realized just how heavy he was when fully armored. Last weigh in, if he remembered correctly, the number had been just shy of a half-ton.
With a sigh, the super-soldier reached up to his jaw, depressing a hidden switch. There was a hiss as his helmet depressurized, equating itself to the surrounding atmosphere, and he removed the expressionless helm. He cradled the now-hollow object in his gauntleted hands, turning it to view the reflective surface of his golden visor.
The face that stared back at him was young, maybe late-thirties, with a strong jaw and a straight Roman nose. His dark brown hair was just over regulation length, there not having been a barber available on Halo. Scars marred his abnormally pale skin, earned from countless missions and battles, among other things. But it was his storm-gray eyes that told the stories behind those scars, shadowed beneath his heavy brow.
Forever narrowed from squinting through flash bangs and flying debris on a daily basis, dark purple underneath, like a bruise, from lack of proper rest. Hurt, loss, and determination could be witnessed churning in their misty depths, but foremost among the emotions fluttering there was exhaustion.
The Spartan was tired.
So many allies lost to enemy firepower, young and old alike, while he fought on through the trials that had taken their last breaths. He hated to see them die, and every time one of his fellow soldiers fell in battle, it was another needle digging in his conscience. At the end of the day, it wore on him so badly he couldn’t even sleep. But what could he do? Many situations in this war had almost killed him, and he was practically built for it!
Chief sighed, leaning back and resting his head on the bunk to stare up at the tiled ceiling.
Master Chief, Spartan 117. That’s all anyone knew him by nowadays. No time to try learning his real name, not that he really gave anyone the chance. He was always fighting, or getting assigned to missions, or something else that left him by his lonesome taking on a horde of enemy forces. A slight smirk lifted a corner of his mouth. Well, not entirely on his lonesome.
Cortana was always there, pointing out things he missed on the battle field and calculating the chances of reaching the objective, yet somehow managing to make some snarky comment on something or other to keep the atmosphere from getting too tense.
The minuscule shadow of a smile dropped from his face.
She was gone now too, left to detonate the reactor back on Halo. He had wanted to take her with him, to keep her safe, but she had insisted, and there wasn’t enough time to argue. Why was it that whenever he started to get close to someone, they slipped away from him in one way or another? He closed his eyes, squeezing them shut with a grimace as he remembered.
The Spartans, Dr. Halsey, Captain Keyes, and now Cortana. All of them gone, some of them dead. It hurt to think of them like that, but it was hard not to when it was the truth, whether he liked it or not.
With a sigh, he reached behind him, grabbing the bedding off the bunk. After a moment of fussing, he lay down on the thin mattress he had pushed under the bunk, not even bothering to pull off his MJOLNIR armor as he pulled the blanket up over his head. The enclosed space would have made any other person claustrophobic, but after having to sleep in countless foxholes and other cramped spaces that provided the only cover available, it felt safer than lying out in the open. One last look at the battered helmet pushed up against the support post closest to his head, and the lone Spartan let his tired eyes fall closed, succumbing to the siren song of slumber.

A Rant to Ignore

This is just me, being annoyed and having a few sore spots poked at.
My current chaffing point is over the third movie in the Spider-Man film trilogy.
OH, how I HATE it.
There are SO many things that they could have done better, could have improved or fit together more smoothly.
Venom for example.
In the original comics and in all the original carton series, Venom was a big bulky dude with lots of muscle and enough sharp fangs in that maw of his to give a dentist a seizure.
But what do they do in the movie?
SCRAWNY ASS PHOTOG BLONDIE.
And what the HELL were they thinking with those claws?!
The only white spots on Venom should have been his eyes and the spider insignia, everything else shiny midnight black.
And I don't care what anybody else says, the reporter version of Eddie Brock from the original series makes a HELL of a lot more sense than the introduction of a new little freelancer for Peter to worry over. Atleast the guy had his own shtick to work with.
Then there's Sandman.
Love the animation, truly revolutionary, BUT WHY IS HE IN NUMBER THREE?!!!
The time they took to introduce his character, linking him into the murder of Uncle Ben, and his origins, it could have been put to MUCH better use.
I mean, when one looks back at the previous two films, one can find clues throughout the plot to upcoming events.
In the first film, they mention Doctor Otto Octavious in passing. Don't ask me when, I forgot.
In the second film, they introduced the character of Peter's Physics professor, Doctor Curt Connors. Y'know, the guy in the brown jacket missing one arm?
In the original series, that guy became the Lizard through a botched experiment.
Had they used that outlet, using an already partially established character, they would have been able to spend MUCH more time building the plot that brought in Gwen Stacy and Eddie Brock.
And don't EVEN get me started on Peter's actions under the symbiote's influence.
That was just RETARDED.
SERIOUSLY! What the HELL were they thinking?!
I mean, they took enough cues from the comics in the previous incarnations of the film, why not continue the trend?
They outlined Pete's reactions so well in the initial series, it made so much more sense and was much more subtle, a superior undertaking of the principle.
In the film, they just turned him into a self-righteous jackass with enough ego to inflate the Hindenburg.
The symbiote brought out the darker side of Pete GRADUALLY, not all at once.
And the introduction of the symbiote was LAME.
A METEOR?!
Come ON, you guys can come up with something more original than THAT.
I mean, in the comics, they had Spidey get into this whole big battle in outer space between himself and other heroes, his suit kinda got trashed, and he found a new one by accident.
In almost every incarnation of the cartoon series, Jolly Jonah's astronaut son brought in back from a shuttle launch.
Either of them would have worked a HELL of a lot better and would have been FAR less cliched.
Harry as the Green Goblin actually wasn't half-bad, though the bit with the amnesia was rather half-assed and more cliched that I care to think about, but it was nice to see Harry happy again. I was expecting his death in the end, as I had read the comic series wherein the original death scene occured, and I was not dissapointed in that fact.
The end battle was pretty damn epic, I have to say, and I was impressed by the extensive attention to detail.
Brock and the symbiote's end was pretty suck, and Sandman kinda turned pussy afterwards, but the scene of MJ and Pete by Harry's side as he passed was really quite touching.
They did carry over things from the original series, of that I am glad, but the majority of the film made me sick to my stomach.
Too many villians, too many origins, too much stuff going all at once!
It was like three films all crammed and squished together into one, and not even CLOSE to as well done as the previous films.
Had they done something more like Spider-Man 2, concentrating on one specific villian with one specific storyline, but having the subtle background storylines working in tandem, they might have pulled off atleast the Venom part of the film.
The space shuttle, and the symbiote hitchhiking in on the landing, bonding to Pete after a series of coninciding events, the slow deterioration of Peter's social life, connecting the symbiote to the more unpleasant changes in his life, Brock getting fired and seeking to commit suicide, etc, etc.
If they had pulled that off, it would have been a good third film.
But they REALLY screwed themselves up this time.
I have to wonder just how many fans they pissed off, and I wonder if Stan "the Man" Lee is cursing his choice in director yet.
All right.
I'm done.
I've said my piece, and I have work to do.
0ArmoredSoul0, Out.

Fragmented

An image, a repeating loop of silent motion, a fractured portion of a mysterious unrevealed whole.
A long shadowed hall of riveted steel, the only light the flash from the muzzle of a single weapon.
The red armored warrior pumps the shotgun, spent shell flying off into the gloom as another bullet is sent careening into the encroaching darkness.
A step back, a retreat. In mess of limbs and cloth, the Draconian girl tumbled across the dais, crashing into the support struts of the damaged interceptor with a bone-shattering crunch. Before the Jedi even had a chance to react, Grievous had bolted, forgetting all about the battle as he raced to her side. He froze for a moment barely a hand’s breadth away, gazing down upon the strange girl that had come to mean so much to him. What if the shot had killed her? The mere thought made his heart twist painfully in his chest, and he collapsed on his knees beside her, a three-fingered hand reaching out to rest on the Draconian’s shoulder.
“Subira?”
A second of tense silence, then a soft moan slipped away from her, and the cyborg felt his heart leap for joy at the sound. Golden slit-pupiled eyes eased open, blinking before turning to focus on him. Thin scaled lips turned up in a weak grin.
“Hey, G-man. How’s it goin’?”
He almost laughed at the absurd nickname, the general’s feral eyes tilting in a return smile.
“I should be asking you that question.”She snickered, then winced, her grin twisting into a grimace of pain as she began to breathe in harsh gasps, clamping one arm close to her side.
“I-I’ve been better.”
The cyborg felt a seed of dread settle in what little remained of his stomach. Carefully, he helped the reptilian girl turn over onto her back, resting her head on his narrow lap as he eased her arm away. It was an awful wound, stretching down her ribcage in one long gash surrounded by blackened flesh, shallower on one end than the other from the angle of the shot that had punched through her side. Blood seeped from the gash where crispified skin had cracked open, seeping into the thin fabric of her gray-brown robes. She would likely die without prompt treatment.
“How bad is it?”The droid general stiffened, and spun his head around to meet the gaze of the Jedi he had been dueling mere moments before. For a split-second, he found himself glaring death at the blue-eyed human, then felt a clawed hand clasp his own. She needed medical care…
“Very.”
Kenobi stepped around the cyborg, kneeling down at the girl’s free side to get a better look at the injury. Two pairs of golden eyes watched, one wary, the other glazed with pain, as he lay his hands on either side of the wound. His grasp of the Force was tenuous, as the battle with Grievous had been intense beyond belief, but he called on it anyway, knowing it was up to him to help the innocent who had taken the hit for the general now seated across from him. Several moments passed with no change whatsoever. Then, as if by magic, the burned and bleeding flesh began to regenerate, blood retreated into its proper vessels, the injury slowly knitting back together. It took longer than he would have liked, his fatigue wearing on him, but the girl’s wound was healed.
“It’ll be sore and tender for a while, but you should be alright as long as you take it easy.”
She smiled, easing up into a sitting position with the droid general’s help.
“No more playing tag with bullets. Will do, Doc.”
The curious trio rose to their collective feet, the girl leaning heavily on her cyborg companion as the two generals made eye contact. Grievous spoke first, his synthesized voice steeped with loathing.
“This changes nothing, Jedi. Enjoy yourself.
After all, it was you who got yourself into this mess.
