Been a while, and I really don't have much to say in the ways of an update, but I have some fiddley-farty background work from an up and coming fic I have in progress. Basically, the story will be about all the different characters I have in my head that help me write and how they all interact with eachother. It's basically a nexus singularity of multiple universes colliding in an isolated space, but it's fun getting the frat-house in my head down on paper.
Meet my Muses!
===
• Rorschach/Walter Kovacs from Watchmen - Referred to as Rory, Ink-Face and Walter, among other similar nicknames (Ginger, Freckles, etc). The first to appear, actually was thrown into nexus junction via Bryonne's shower (while she was in it), which provided a rather awkward relationship at first. Is EXTREMELY protective of Bryonne, rarely far from her unless asked. Generally at least semi-hostile at all times, only truly relaxes when alone with Bryonne. Finds Bryonne extremely confusing at times, but likes her well enough to care for her well-being, and oft times treats her like a younger sibling.
• Master Chief Spartan John-117 from the Halo trilogy - Often referred to as MC, Chief, and John. Randomly appeared in living room while Bryonne was over at a friend's house playing the Halo video game. While at first had no idea what to do with himself outside of the Human-Covenant War, he's come to see his visits to the Nexus as mini vacations where he gets to sleep in (a whole ten minutes, HA) and enjoy homemade cooking. Likes Bryonne, reminds him of his fellow Spartan Kelly, but still is a bit wary of everyone else. Thinks PH is a dick, but finds him a good drinking buddy in a pinch.
• Pyramid Head from Silent Hill - Also referred to as PH, Py, and Pyra (as well as Xuey, referring to Red God Xuchilbara, and Scarlet as a joke). Manifested during particularly vivid nightmare featuring him, startled by shift in surroundings ended up frightening Bryonne even more on accident and got in a fight with Rory which was broken up by Bryonne when she came to her senses. Though quiet and reserved most of the time, is more often than not at the whim of his instincts and raging libido. Bryonne has managed to tame him somewhat, so he's alright to hang around, but still has a tendency to randomly hump things, more often when he's just woken up or inebriated. Has a very twisted sense of humor. Thinks Bryonne is pretty OK, for a human, and greatly enjoys her cooking.
• Karl Ruprect Kroenen from Hellboy (the movie) - Generally referred to as Karl, Kroenen (Doc or Dr. K by Jack Spicer). Randomly appeared in laundry room after a long week of reading Hellboy fanfiction. Tends to spend the majority of his time reading or working on various small mechanical projects, and generally avoids contact with the other denizens unless totally necessary. Enjoys the fact that Bryonne finds his distorted German accent 'cool' and his mutilated face 'fascinating' (rather than receiving the usual disgusted reaction), and thus tolerates her presence far more willingly than the presence of most of the other houseguests.
• Jack Skellington the Pumpkin King from The Nightmare Before Christmas - Generally referred to as Jack or King, but also called Bone-Daddy on an occasion. Manifested during a nightmare, not unlike PH, but differed in the fact that he did his best to comfort the girl despite his own confusion. Kind and benevolent, is very much the gentle giant and is regarded as an older brother figure by Bryonne. Tries to see the best in everyone, and is very patient. Thinks Bryonne is a wonderful girl, and enjoys helping her introduce the new additions as well as providing her with a beta for her writing.
• Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean - Usually referred to as either Captain Jack or Captain Sparrow, though sometimes just Sparrow or Captain. Appeared on Halloween, passed out on porch and went unnoticed until decorations were being put away. Thinks majority of Nexus is a drunken hallucination, and thinks Bryonne is a 'darling', though she continually and adamantly turns down his persistent advances.
• The Doctor (Tenth incarnation) from Doctor Who - Generally referred to as Doctor, Ten, Tenny, or David (in reference to his actor in the series). Appeared in Bryonne's bedroom while she was watching a Doctor Who marathon. Had a bit of a panic attack at first, thinking the paradoxal enigma would cause the universe to collapse until he figured out that the nexus had naturally occurred and the universe was just fine and dandy. Pops in now and again for a spot of tea and conversation, enjoys Bryonne's company as she generally understands what he's going on about even if he gets technical and excited (or starts reminiscing). Thinks she a "brilliant" young girl, and sometimes wonders if he should have her come along with him once in a while before remembering the fact that her presence is what keeps the Nexus stable.
• Venom symbiote from Spider-Man - Manifested during Spring Cleaning, black stain behind refrigerator that refused to be removed until Bryonne tried to use her nails to pick it off. Had been injured by heat generated by fridge motor, and clung to Bryonne in a bracelet form until healed. Once healed, attempted to bond, but was blocked by Pyramid Head (being a supernatural entity of vast power, he's capable of various feats - epic growling) and removed. Through trial and error, was able to construct a physical form of his own. Was resentful of PH for the longest time because of his being blocked from bonding, but eventually got past it and the two share a grudging friendship. Is rather clingy, preferring to be around people, preferably Bryonne since she generally tolerates his presence. Tends to refrain from a physical form, preferring to pretend to be various pieces of jewelry so he can hang around Bryonne more. Thinks Bryonne would make a fantastic host, but refrains from bonding due to general politeness and standing threat from PH.
• Alphonse Elric from FullMetal Alchemist - Referred to as Al, Aru, or sometimes Alu. Appeared in garage during a period of FMA obsession, was almost crushed under boxes. Immediately took a shine to the pets of the house, especially the youngest cat Delilah, and is much like Skellington in his patience and tolerance of others. Generally shy, and prefers to hang around the less openly hostile of the group. Thinks Bryonne is very nice and likes to hang out with her, especially when she starts reciting poetry or singing.
• Soundwave from Transformers (G1) - Referred to by his full name, though some nicknames have popped up, including Sounders, SW, and Bluey. Manifested in an old radio Bryonne's father brought to the house prior to Bryonne re-watching the original Transformers movie. Upon transforming, found original massive form was unattainable due to a quirk in the Nexus and took a form just a little taller than an average human, approximately Master Chief's height. Unnerved by inability to return to full size, spent much of initial time alone and trying to reach his Cassetticons via their telepathic link, which was cut off to its barest limits due to another quirk in the Nexus. Eventually relented to Bryonne's attempts to comfort him, and has since used his time in the Nexus to experiment with the benefits of a smaller frame. Found a companion in Kroenen, and enjoys helping the clockwork man with his mechanical projects. Sees Bryonne as useful, if a little annoying due to her fascination with him.
• Darkrai from Pokemon - Often referred to as Rai or Rai-rai, sometimes Dee, though mostly just his full name. Manifested on a stormy day when Bryonne was returning from school and had Pokémon on the brain, emerged from her shadow upon entering the house. Was badly injured, and spent his first week in the house bedridden. Bryonne stuck by him, fussing and fretting and continually turning to Kroenen for help, since the German was the closest thing to a medical professional resident in the house. Discovered his aura didn't cause nightmares while in the Nexus, allowed himself to indulge in the comfort of a friend he knew he wouldn't cause accidental harm. Tends to hang around Skellington and Bryonne, but made an interesting acquaintance in Dororo upon learning of the alien frog's own unfortunate past. Thinks Bryonne is a very good person, and has a little bit of a crush due to her caring for him.
• Zim from Invader Zim - Referred to most commonly as Z, Zim, Zimmy, though other nicks have cropped up. Appeared in bedroom while Bryonne was asleep, fell from ceiling on top of her. Was knocked unconscious when Bryonne panicked and attacked out of self-defense. Woke up wrapped up in a blanket on the couch, surrounded by a collection of very odd people without his human disguise. He immediately went on the defensive, and would have attacked if not for the appearance of the Doctor in the TARDIS, who recognized his species and greeted him in his native language (Irken). Upon having the situation explained, took great interest in the concept and got into a long discussion with the Doctor and generally made himself at home. Pops back and forth to visit whenever he's feeling stressed, since a quirk in the nexus allows him to be immune to his allergies to human food and drink (has become a great fan of hot chocolate and tea, as well as ScavananNut sandwiches). Became a permanent resident upon discovering his mission was a fake, exiled from his home with no one to turn to but the Nexus and his enemies. Tends to hang around the Doctor whenever he's around, and otherwise mingles with the other alien species, though after his exile tends to cling to Bryonne (and similarly sympathetic denizens) a lot. Finds Bryonne a comforting, non-threatening presence, and an intelligent person with a great imagination, despite her human origins. After exile, thinks of her more as a mother/older sibling figure than anything else.
• 6 from 9 (the movie) - Most common nicknames are simply saying Six in different languages. Appeared in Bryonne's backpack when coming home from classes, and wasn't discovered until the walk home, when he started having a vision and was thrown into a panic attack. Bryonne did her best to calm him down, and got a few good scratches for her efforts, but it worked in the end. He was very clingy the first few days, terrified of his new surroundings and the strange people that populated the place, often hiding in Bryonne's clothing. He eventually opened up once he got access to art supplies, and made good friends out of pretty much everyone he met, even Pyramid Head. He's still relatively clingy, but he doesn't mind being handed around as much as he used to, and he's absolutely enthralled by Rorschach's ever-changing mask. Thinks Bryonne is very nice, and enjoys working on art projects with her and anyone else who wants to participate.
• Yautja from AVP - Actual name in unpronounceable, so Bryonne named him Max and has generated several nicknames including Preddy, Muscles, and Dreds. Appeared in green belt outside Nexus while Bryonne was walking home from school, ended up stalking her through the trees to her house because she was the only living thing out and about besides him (plus the Nexus draw). Eventually revealed himself after spying on the house for about a week and observing the odd mix of creatures that dwelled there. Bryonne was beyond ecstatic upon meeting him, so much so she had to lock herself in her room and have a fangirl freak out before she could even speak properly. Acts more like a stray cat than anything else, popping in occasionally for food and company, more often for company since he's an expert hunter. Found an unexpected friend in Master Chief, who was the only one besides Bryonne who didn't react to his curious facial structure, having dealt with Elites for the majority of his military career. Likes to make things, and often carves sculptures and jewelry from bones he's collected from his kills. Thinks Bryonne is odd, but tolerable, and would make a good warrior with some training.
• Lord Richard Ashendale from LFG Comic - Referred to as Richard, Ricky, and occasionally Dick as a joke. Wandered in through the patch of corn Bryonne and her family were growing in their garden, and would have likely torched everything if not for the prompt intervention of the Nexus, which limits his magical combat abilities to non-threatening levels. First met Pyramid Head, and got into a long conversation on the subject of performing various types bodily harm on other living beings before Bryonne wandered in and introduced herself. Doesn't visit too often, but when he does he generally hangs around with Kroenen and PH, though his interesting sense of humor has made him a great friend of Zim and Beetlejuice. Thinks Bryonne is a pleasant girl who would do well in the evil hierarchy with a little training, but knows her more goodly influences wouldn't approve of his meddling.
• Heatblast from Ben 10 - Real name unpronounceable, Bryonne named Pyrrhus (Greek: flame-colored, red). Referred to as Pyro, Flame-Head/Butt/Brain, Hothead among others. Oddly enough, manifested in the middle of winter while Bryonne was waiting for the school bus and wishing she had something/one to keep her warm. Became ill upon extended contact with snow, and had to be carried back to the house by PH (supernatural resistance to heat). Nexus limiters allow him to interact normally with his environment, and his flame-throwing powers are nulled much like Richard's magical abilities. Has a relatively short attention span, and acts a lot like a young teen, but has an intelligent mind and is an avid sports fan. Upon being introduced, took an immediate liking to Bryonne, since she can be just as hyper-active as he can, and sees her at the sibling he never had. Takes great joy in artistic expression, and is particularly adept at sculpting as well as music, which makes him good friends with 6. Enjoys in depth discussions on various subjects, and prefers to talk with Bryonne, 6, and Zim, since they're the ones he can most easily relate to. Has also struck up a rather curious friendship with Grievous, and likes to spar with the cyborg whenever he gets the chance.
• Dororo Heicho from Keroro Gunso - Referred to as Dororo, Sensei, Azure (and other references to color). Manifested while Bryonne was practicing for her Muai-Thai class (Sun Salutation), and had a bit of a panic attack upon realizing he was in an unfamiliar Penopoken dwelling without his allies. Bryonne managed to calm him down with help from Skellington, and introduced herself and the other residents over tea. Greatly enjoys Bryonne's company, as she is quite happy to sit and listen to him when no one else will, and has taken it upon himself to teach her some of the more basic ninja arts. Joins her in practicing her Sun Salutation every morning, and tends to linger about her, especially when he's feeling lonely. Has made great friends with Darkrai, Alphonse and Skellington, as well as becoming acquainted with Kroenen and Soundwave, but finds the most enjoyment out of lingering alongside Bryonne and 6.
• General Grievous from Star Wars - Referred to as Grievous, General, Metal-Ass/Head, GiGi. Manifested in Bryonne's closet while she was in the shower reciting her favorite lines from him. Almost immediately got in a fight with pretty much everybody except the more non-violent residents (Spicer, Skellington, Sparrow, The Doctor, Alphonse, Dororo, etc), and ended up battling the whole group in hand-to-hand combat since his lightsabers wouldn't work (Nexus intervention). Fight ended when Master Chief and Pyramid Head teamed up with the Venom symbiote, tackling Grievous to the ground just as Bryonne got out of her shower. Upon seeing the cyborg struggling underneath the combined weight of a futuristic armored super-soldier and a super-natural demi-god of judgment as well as being bound in place by an alien symbiote, immediately came to his rescue, screaming and yelling at the top of her lungs to clear the area. Once everybody had backed off, she turned to help the battered Droid General to his feet, only to find him stomping off down the hallway towards her room. He hid out in her closet for almost a week, thinking if he stayed long enough he'd be able to go back, ignoring everyone and everything around him, until approached by Alphonse, who merely sat with him until Grievous asked him what the hell he was doing. Bryonne found them later, conversing comfortably despite sitting on the floor in her closet surrounded by shoes. Grievous hung around Al a lot at first, observing the other residents, until he was approached by Bryonne again, who was with Master Chief at the time and made the Spartan apologize for his actions before properly introducing herself. Since then, Grievous has come to think of Bryonne as something of a fellow warrior, or at least a warrior in training, and treats her with a certain measure of respect, and does his best to make a good example of himself. He's even offered to train her, but so far, Bryonne hasn't taken him up on it since she's been working with Dororo.
• Bouncer Big Daddy from BioShock - Real name not available, Bryonne named Gabriel (Bibical: strong man of God). Referred to as Gabby, Gabs, G-Man, Big Daddy, Daddy-O, Mr. Bubbles or Mr. B (rarely). Manifested from a particularly terrifying nightmare when Bryonne's father was away from home, thus causing her imagination to lock onto the next best thing. Immediately reacted to Bryonne's stressed state, went into defend-and-comfort mode, completely disregarding everything else to see to her well-being. She ended up falling asleep in his arms that first night, and he promptly labeled her as a Little Sister in his mind, despite her age and lack of ADAM altered body chemistry. Would not allow ANYONE near her, PERIOD, which put him in Rorschach's black book from the get go, until she woke up and realized what was going on, forcing the Big Daddy to recognize the other denizens as non-threatening. Followed her around constantly for the first few weeks, and eventually started to get used to the other residents, though still wary. Finally started to make friends when Bryonne got fed up with him following her around and told him to go bug someone else for a while, which led him to wander aimlessly around the house until he stumbled in on Kroenen and Soundwave playing chess. After watching them play for some hours, started pointing out moves and strategies, proving that beneath the conditioning and genetic manipulation he had a very sharp mind. Found a very close companion in Soundwave due to mutual protective motive regarding their respective charges (and Soundwave's telepathic ability allowing him to be understood), and eventually started to connect with the other denizens of the Nexus. Upon meeting PH, was initially very wary and uneasy around the eerie monster, but warmed up to him after getting his help breaking up a fight between Master Chief and Soundwave. Generally thinks of Bryonne as his Little Sister, and doesn't like to leave her alone for long periods of time, but trusts the other denizens of the house enough to allow her to be cared for by them. Guards her room at night.
• Jack Spicer from Xiaolin Showdown - Referred to as Jack, Jackie, Jack-Man, Robo-Boy, Spicer. Appeared on house grounds by falling from the sky into the garden due to his heli-pack malfunctioning. At the time, the two closest denizens were Pyramid Head and Richard, who scared the ever-loving shite out of Jack upon investigating the crash site. Became doubly terrified upon finding himself unable to call up his miniature army of Jack-Bots to protect himself, and would have likely fled if not for the appearance of Skellington and Alphonse. Upon seeing the skeleton, passed out from sheer terror and was carried into the house by Al. Woke up on the couch with Bryonne splinting his sprained wrist with MasterCheif's help. Immediately had a panic attack, only soothed when Soundwave came into the picture and used his telepathy to calm the teen. Bryonne introduced herself and the other denizens of the house, and promptly put herself in his good graces upon offering hot cocoa and cookies. Took the longest to adjust to the Nexus, since the appearance of the more visually unique residents sent into to fits of panic that often ended up with him hiding in the oddest places (including the pantry and on top of the refrigerator). Eventually opened up upon discovering Kroenen's workshop, and fell to tinkering with the German's clockwork inventions until Kroenen's return, whereupon he made a complete fool out of himself apologizing for his presence and promptly fled the area. Kroenen eventually caught up with him again, and commended his spectacular workmanship with a thence frustrating project the German had been working on for some time. Making friends with Kroenen led to interacting with Soundwave, and the trio spent longs hours poring over blueprints and helping each other with their individual projects. He also ended up making friends with 6 when the stitchpunk injured himself falling off the dining table and Spicer was able to fix him up good as new. He and the Doctor made friends right off the bat when the Doctor commented on one of his inventions. Generally sees Bryonne as a good friend/maternal figure due to her carefree nature and her fretting over him whenever he gets himself injured due to a moment of clumsiness. Most often found hanging around Kroenen and Soundwave, though he's also managed to get himself acquainted with MasterChief by questioning the super-soldier about his battle armor.
• Beetlejuice from Beetlejuice - Referred to as BJ, Beej, also B-Man and Stripes, only called by his full name when being summoned or in big trouble. Arrived on Halloween amidst a group of Trick-or-Treaters he scared away as a prank, not realizing he wasn't in his own universe. Turned around expecting Lydia and found Bryonne staring at him over the glasses of her MIB Agent costume. Immediately, he tried to cover for himself and attempted escape, only to be promptly grabbed by the girl and pulled inside to receive a giant hug and an ecstatic fan-girly squeal. Shortly after this, he was introduced to the various strange inhabitants of the house by Skellington, and immediately struck up a conversation with Sparrow, sharing lude jokes and commenting on the other denizens. Eventually met and befriended Pyramid Head over beer. Thinks Bryonne is an okay kid, with one hell of a great sense of humor and a crazy fun imagination to boot. Basically treats her like he does Lids, but just friends (no romantic undertone).
• Sniper from Team Fortress 2 - Real name is Flynn Bruce Ackerman, referred to as Snipes, Sniper, Aussie-boy, and Flynn on an occasion (Bruce when teasing). Appeared in Bryonne's bathroom just as Bryonne was getting ready to take a shower after getting backstabbed by the enemy Spy. Severely disoriented, the Australian allowed Bryonne to put his introduction to the situation in the capable hands of Rorschach, with a little help from the Doctor, while she took her shower. At first thought he'd died for real and gotten stuck in Purgatory, but realized the people hanging around were far too strange and having too much fun to be stuck in limbo, so suspended judgment until he got the full story from all angles. Made quick friends with pretty much everyone due to his laid-back personality, but especially clicked with Master Chief due to military/professional career. Also finds Max an alright bloke (mutual hunter), and is always interested in Kroenen's latest inventions. Upon being properly introduced to Bryonne, took an immediate liking to her, seeing her as a bright and lively young woman with a good head on her shoulders despite her hyperactive personality. Treats his visits to and from the Nexus as miniature vacations in between battles, as he appears generally between death and Respawn for some odd reason. Is the first and (so far) only muse ever to be able to bring along fellows from his universe, most commonly showing up with Medic and/or Spy. It's speculated this is due to the curious way he is able to access the Nexus (others generally access in times of extreme duress or sheer will power, in BJ's case the name recitation).
• (latest) Conrad Achenleck from Hanna Is Not A Boy's Name - Most often referred to as Connie, Bat-Boy, Vampy and Mr. Mono-Fang (jokingly). Arrived in universe upon getting lost on his way over to Doc Worth's and ended up stranded at the end of Bryonne's block just as the sun was coming up. Rorschach was the one to find him, having gone out for an early morning walk and recognized him from reading the webcomic over Bryonne's shoulder. With nowhere else to go and the sun coming up far too quickly, Conrad had no choice but to follow Rory back to the house. Nearly panicked upon being confronted with the oddity of the Nexus residents, mainly because the first denizens he met upon entering were PH and Gabby, who were watching Sweeney Todd in the living room while waiting for Bryonne to wake up. Properly panicked upon meeting Skellington, instinctively turned into his bat form and hid in the dining room chandelier. Would have likely stayed there all day if not for Rory going through the trouble of waking Bryonne and briefing her on the situation, to which she responded by getting MasterChief's help to look into the chandelier. Bryonne managed to talk down the panicked vampire, and finally gathered up his bat form and allowed him to hide in her hair while he got used to the general atmosphere of the Nexus. Eventually was properly introduced to the rest of the residents, and oddly enough hit it off with Beetlejuice, finding an entity who could relate to his undead status through personal experience. Also became well acquainted with 6 through their mutual enjoyment of artistic expression, and likes to watch the inventing trio when they're working, though he finds himself extremely unnerved by all three of them (well, Soundwave and Kroenen, finds Jack annoying). He's also found an interesting acquaintance in Flynn, who sympathizes with his predicament ad has taken it upon himself to teach the "lame-pire" how to hunt properly (with some help from Max). Thankfully, the Nexus has lifted several of the more debilitating parameters of him vampirism, allowing him to walk about freely during the day without fear of harm and extending his dietary limits, though he still heavily relies on blood for sustenance. Actually somewhat enjoys Bryonne's company, though her hyperactive tendencies remind him a lot of Hanna. Her sharp mind and logical thought process as well as her naturally empathic nature greatly aide in his tolerance of her, and he also enjoys watching her draw (also isn't afraid to help her with poses or anatomy, so long as no one else is watching).
